City of Montello Road Construction update

Post Date:04/10/2019 9:11 AM

Hwy 22 South/Main Street:

Now this is what was supposed to be done last year but got held up due to flooding. They are looking at milling and paving from Frietag's auto to just past city limits right around first week of May. This will be done under flagging so there will be delays but road will be open. Good weather should take about a week.

The bridge by stoplights needs the polymere overlay put on the north side and that will be done as soon as possible but weather needs start out at 50 degrees and be rising. That will be one day done under flagging.

The underwater bridge work that needs to be done on the Fox and Montello river bridge will begin June 1 and will also be done by flaggers when traffic is going to be impacted.

Hwy 23/Underwood Ave:

This is the big WisDOT project that we all have heard so much about.  The attached map shows the 5 stages of work that is planned starting April 22 and having a complete date of November 13th. The crews will be working 5 days a week and Saturdays to start out. If they get good weather and things progress good they may not work Saturdays anymore, but I can say they want to get this project done sooner than later.

Some work will begin right on the 22nd of April but will be done under a flagging operation. The anticipated hard closure of Hwy 23 will be right around the first of May. Local traffic and Emergency services will be able to get around construction stages, but it will be closed to thru traffic.

West Montello Street:

This is a project the city took on to extend the WisDOT project to Sunset Dr. (Dredge bank road) It is a reconstruction with new sewer, water, sidewalk, and curb and gutter. The contractor wants to get in as soon as possible so the possible start date could be as soon as April 16th and needs to be done by mid June.

This project will have West Montello closed from city hall parking lot to Sunset Dr. At times traffic will not be allowed down sunset while work is being done on Sunset, but they are going to do their best to minimize that time.
